Koreans think Waygooks (foreigners) eating spicy food is hilarious. They are filled with pride when it comes to their traditional dishes, and that cup runneth over when it’s a Waygook about to take their first bite of an extra spicy dish.

Lunchtime is also a great example of the social hierarchy and collective aspects of Korean society. Each level in the hierarchy will have its designated table and seat, with the highest-ranking individual getting first dibs. The hierarchy is dictated by both age and position.

The recipients of my most charming-self: the cafeteria ladies. My appreciation and gratitude runs deep for these beautiful women and for their service. Lunch is literally a beacon of joy right smack in the middle of the day.
